🌿 This 3-day-old vegetable beats most of my pills

Broccoli sprouts did what my supplement stack couldn't

I spent years building a supplement stack. Capsules, powders, tinctures lined up across my kitchen counter like a pharmacy. Then I found out about a compound inside three-day-old broccoli sprouts that does more than most of those bottles combined. And it grows in a mason jar on the windowsill.

Sulforaphane is a compound in cruciferous vegetables. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale. But broccoli sprouts pack 10 to 100 times more of it than the full-grown vegetable.

When you chew or chop the sprouts, an enzyme called myrosinase kicks in and activates the sulforaphane. That's when things start happening. Over 5,000 published studies have looked at this compound. It helps your body clear out damaged cells, calm chronic inflammation, and support detoxification at the cellular level. Not in a vague "wellness" way. In a measurable, clinical-trial way.

Why Burned-Out Professionals Are Turning to CBD

Long hours, heavy workloads and frustrating coworkers: job burnout is on the rise. Savvy professionals are turning to CBD and its sister compound, CBG, to manage work stress and burnout without losing focus.

Like CBD, CBG is a non-intoxicating compound found naturally in the hemp plant that is known for helping to manage mild/temporary anxiety. And these benefits are backed by science: participants in a 2022 CBDistillery study who took CBD + CBG reported:

  • Reduced mild or temporary anxiety and tension

  • Increased focus and mental clarity

  • That CBD + CBG was more effective than other treatments they tried in the past

When it comes to quality CBD products, CBDistillery is leading the way. Non-GMO, US-grown hemp, 100% clean ingredients, and a 60-day satisfaction guarantee give you one less thing to stress about.

The blood sugar connection

This one surprised me. A 12-week study with 97 people with type 2 diabetes found that broccoli sprout extract reduced fasting blood sugar by 6.5% and improved long-term glucose markers. If you're watching your numbers, that's a real nudge from something growing on a windowsill.

Your brain on sprouts

Sulforaphane supports mitochondrial function in brain cells, which matters more with every passing year. In animal models, broccoli sprout extract showed neuroprotective effects and improved memory in Alzheimer's studies. Human trials are catching up, but the early signals look solid.

It also boosts glutathione production (your cells' main antioxidant). In a clinical trial with 291 participants, those drinking broccoli sprout beverage excreted 61% more toxin-binding compounds than the placebo group. Your body basically takes out the trash more efficiently.

How to do this at home

Grow your own. Embarrassingly simple. Buy broccoli sprouting seeds online. Soak them overnight in a mason jar with a mesh lid. Rinse twice a day. In three to five days, you've got a jar full of sprouts.

Eat them raw. On salads, sandwiches, or straight from the jar. Cooking kills the enzyme that activates sulforaphane, so raw is how this works.

If sprouting isn't your thing, supplements exist. Look for ones combining glucoraphanin with myrosinase (the activating enzyme). Without it, your body barely converts any of the compound.

A bag of sprouting seeds runs about $10 to $15 and lasts weeks. Pennies per serving for something backed by thousands of studies.

One thing worth knowing

Not everyone responds the same way. Your gut bacteria play a big role in how much sulforaphane you actually absorb. Eating fermented foods (yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut) helps build the right gut environment. Start with a tablespoon of sprouts and work up from there. Most people notice improved energy and digestion within the first week.
