Is Your Screen in Charge?

The Power of a "Tech Timeout"

One evening at dinner, I realized everyone was glued to a screen.

That observation motivated me to attempt a Tech Timeout: placing devices aside and seeing what happened.

Conversation blossomed, connections felt stronger, and it was amazingly refreshing.

Why a Tech Timeout Matters

  1. Cuts Mental Clutter
Stepping away from alerts helps your mind refocus.

  2. Boosts Concentration
With fewer distractions, you can fully engage in a book, a shared meal, or creative pursuits.

  3. Deepens Real Connections
Look up, chat, and laugh with those around you. These moments mean more than any digital feed.

Your Practical Unplug Plan

  1. Pick a Time
Choose an hour when you often scroll, maybe around dinner or after work.

  2. Set Boundaries
Switch on Do Not Disturb or place your device in another room. Let companions know you will be disconnected.

  3. Fill That Gap
Read, stretch, play a board game, or start a genuine conversation. Pay attention to how you feel during and afterward.

Track Your Experience

Keep a small notepad. Each time you catch yourself reaching for your device, jot down the urge and any emotions you notice.

Over time, you will uncover habits that guide you toward healthier tech use.

Try 30 Minutes

Begin with half an hour during dinner and store your device elsewhere. Reflect afterward. Calmer? More engaged?

We would enjoy hearing about your Tech Timeout. Reply or send a note. We are cheering you on!
